Freud assumed that in most cases a given component instinct did arise from a specific erotogenic zone. He suggested ‘ . . that excitation of two kinds arise from the somatic organs, based upon differences of a chemical nature. ’ One ought to be reminded here that Freud explicitly referred to the tentative nature of these formulations but as he pointed out:.
